Beth's Book Review

The Two-Family House by Lynda Cohen Loigman (St. Martins Griffin, 2016)   Author Lynda Cohen Loigman states, “The Two-Family House is a story I thought about for at least ten years before I ever wrote a word. I spent countless hours over a full decade thinking about how Rose, Helen, Abe, and Mort would behave in difficult situations, and how they would feel when faced with tragedy or joy. By the time I found the courage to start writing, I knew those four characters as well as I knew any person in my real life.” (p.293) ...

Family Fun

I’ve been celebrating Halloween with my kids for over a decade now, and as a result, I’ve got a few Halloween hacks for parents to share. 1. Go to the pumpkin patch early. Some might take this advice a step further and skip heading out to the over-crowded pumpkin-slash-apple-slash-pony-ride-slash-corn-maze extravaganza entirely, but not me. Those fall pumpkin photos with the kids are just too amazing to miss. But go early. Most farms are pretty empty the first few weekends in October, but not so much as ...

Health News You Can Use

New guidelines from the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology announced last week revised the reading at which high blood pressure is diagnosed from 140/90 to 130/80.  This change increased the number of Americans with high blood pressure from about a third to almost half of all adults. Previous guidelines had a systolic reading of 130-139 as pre-hypertension or pre-high blood pressure. The new guidelines move pre-hypertension to 120-129 and normal to less than 120. These changes are expected to triple the ...

Hometown Heroes

There are people in the community that contribute on a regular basis. You may have noticed them as they are at almost every event. They quietly “blend in” and are always the first ones to roll up their sleeves and jump in to do what needs done. TAPinto Roselle/Roselle Park is looking beyond the group, beyond the event and looking at these un-sung “Home Town Heroes” and spotlighting them as a way to say “Thank You” for your dedication to the community. This edition we are spotlighting Walter Wimbush, a ...

Liz on Theatre

‘Bakersfield Mist’ explores art versus reality By Liz Keill MORRISTOWN, NJ – The Bickford Theatre presents a touching, often hilarious, two-person play about a woman in a trailer park in Bakersfield, California, who thinks she has purchased an original Jackson Pollock at a thrift shop. With this unlikely premise, the play evolves into a matter of wills, wishful thinking and harsh reality. Author Stephen Sachs has conjured a clash between the hard-nosed former bartender, Kim Zimmer and a visiting art specialist from a ...

TAP in to Your Inner Foodie

A recent question posted by TAP Editor Roselle/Roselle Park – Kathy Lloyd began the debate of Taylor Ham or Pork Roll?  This article is dedicated to the primarily New Jersey delicacy. So you ask, “What is the difference between Taylor Ham and Taylor Pork Roll”?                        Think of it as Coke is to Cola, Taylor Ham is to Pork Roll. The name debate seems to be between North Jersey locals calling ...

Your Dental Health

Dr. Rodrigeuz and I attended another LANAP training last month in Cerritos California furthering our ongoing education about the only process that regenerates bone. LANAP (Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure) is the newest innovation in treating gum disease, allowing for the targeted removal of diseased periodontal tissue without removing any surrounding healthy tissue.  After the laser is used to remove the infection, the dentist then makes a second pass to eliminate any remaining bacteria which then jump starts the ...
