NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - The TAPinto Featured Franchisee of the Month for January 2021 is Jennifer Dericks from TAPinto Sparta and TAPinto Newton.

Dericks launched her two franchises back in 2012 after completing her term on the Sparta Board of Education and she’s been with TAPinto ever since.

“It would be more accurate to say TAPinto found me,” Dericks said. “I was ready to do something new that would still allow me to serve my community when someone from what was then known as The Alternative Press called asking if I was interested. I was.”

While TAPinto is full time for her, she still has plenty of other community-focused endeavors, namely volunteering for organizations that support her four boys and teaching Kundalini Yoga for nearly 15 years.

She is a lifelong volunteer and Jennifer’s passion for her community can clearly be seen in her coverage of Sussex County.

“Sparta is my home town and Newton is the Sussex County seat, a natural extension for me,” Dericks said. “[Both] are rural communities with beautiful geography that encourage outdoor activities including hiking, biking, kayaking. Sussex County is a wonderful place to raise a family...I am proud that I have had more than 1.3 million readers this year for Sparta and Newton. For readers, I am often the only outlet covering local elected boards, high school sports and even little league sports, as well as events and activities throughout the community.  Businesses who want to reach Sparta and Newton residents need to be on TAPinto.”

Despite not having a background in media, Dericks has built a successful news business. In addition to owning and operating her two sites, she volunteers to serve on TAPinto’s Content Committee, which helps TAPinto’s corporate team with content-specific policies and procedures. This role has allowed Dericks the opportunity to interact with other franchise owners and help grow the TAPinto brand outside of her area.

“I am proud to be a part of TAPinto where people work hard, cooperate with each other and want to do the best for their communities,” she said. “Typically, we live in the communities we cover so we are invested in keeping the community vibrant and informed.”

After spending the last eight years growing her TAPinto Sparta and Newton, Dericks is looking towards the future and has some high hopes for where she can continue to grow.

“In Sparta and Newton I offer a good, well-priced product for advertisers -- the strong readership means lots of eyes on the ads,” she said. “Looking to 2021 and beyond, I would like to hire a marketing partner to handle more of the sales with the ultimate goal of expanding into Jefferson Township and other nearby communities that do not have local news coverage.”
