SOUTH PLAINFIELD - The South Plainfield High School Marching Band will present the 2019 South Plainfield Marching Band Competition on Sunday, Oct. 6 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Frank R. Jost Field, located behind the PAL Building at 1250 Maple Avenue.
Along with Roselle Park H.S. who has has been competing, this will be Abraham Clark High School's first year to compete.
The gate opens at 11:30 a.m. and marching bands will perform every fifteen minutes with awards presented at 3:45 p.m.
Food, vendors, and performances will fill the afternoon as eight area marching bands take their turn performing at the South Plainfield High School Stadium to compete for placement in the Tournament of Bands (TOB) competition.
Tickets can be purchased at the door. Adults are $12, senior citizens are $10, and children ten years old and under are $5. All proceeds from the event benefit the South Plainfield High School Music Department’s chorus, orchestra, and band.
The S.P.H.S. Marching Band placed first out of seven bands in Division 2A over the weekend at the Brick Memorial High School TOB Competition with a high score of 83.335, also winning best visual and best percussion. This latest score brings them to a rank of fourth in the region out of 42 marching bands.
Performing along with South Plainfield High School will be several local high school marching bands: North Plainfield High School, Abraham Clark High School, Manchester High School, Metuchen High School, Regional High School, Roselle Park High School, and John F. Kennedy Memorial High School in Iselin.
