ROSELLE/ELIZABETH, NJ - Book lovers from all over New Jersey came out on Saturday afternoon to pick up some real treasures from independent authors at the 5h Annual Independent Author’s Book Expo (IABX) held at the Warianco Sports Center.

The expo creates an atmosphere where independent authors introduce their stories to mainstream audiences. The event included workshops for aspiring authors, a children’s corner and Authors displaying, selling, and entertaining many with their stories.

Event creator, Renaee Smith is an international award-winning author who has published several books including two cookbooks, four children’s books, and one inspirational book. Her children’s books deal with social and environmental issues in a way that children can understand. Now in its 5th year, the event attracts a diverse population of authors from all across the United States. The Expo is a “family-friendly” event and brings in a large audience from the community.

In addition to being an important platform for authors, the event also promotes early literacy and is aimed to encourage and inspire young readers. Free books were given away to children who attended the event.

The popularity of the expo has soared drawing many from all over to come to see for themselves what new books are out there or to learn how to get started themselves as an author.  It also gives the opportunity to meet the authors and even get their books autographed!

Award winners at this year's event included:

  • Rena Trefman Cobrinik - Best Non-Fiction Book
  • Tesa Erven - Best Fiction Book
  • Alessandro Reale - Best Children's Book

“We had authors come from Colorado, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland, New York, Washington DC, Chicago, Indiana, Florida, and New Jersey,” said Smith.

“I would like to thank our sponsors the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders, Roselle Savings Bank, Roselle Chamber of Commerce, and the Roselle/Roselle Park Rotary,” said Smith.
