ROSELLE PARK, NJ - Mayor Carl Hokanson has announced that he will run for another term, but this time he will not be running on the Democratic ticket.
A statement issued by Hokanson said he will be running once again for Mayor, however, this time he has chosen to run as an independent candidate.
The mayor's letter was posted via his Facebook page late Sunday evening stating, “I have met and discussed my perspective with the Roselle Park Democratic Committee and spoke to them as to what I feel my role as your mayor should be. Through these discussions, it has been decided that our paths were not aligned. As such, I am moving forward with my re-election campaign for mayor. Not as a Democrat. Not as Republican. I'm running as an independent candidate. It is my belief that this will allow me to truly and independently represent all the voices of our borough.”
This is the second member to leave the Roselle Park democratic party in the past year to run as an independent candidate. In the last election, former First Ward Councilman Eugene Meola also left to run as an independent candidate.
