EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ - A resident from Roselle took first Place in two categories at the Meadowlands Racing and Entertainment's annual “Battle for the Best BBQ” competition that was held on Saturday evening. 

Resident Doreen Rinaldo, who works as a Lead Radiation Therapist at Trinitas Comprehensive Cancer Center and a home “Backyard BBQ Enthusiast” beat out the pro’s and took 1st. Prize for Beef Brisket and 1st. Prize for her Ribs, giving her a total prize of $1,000 and a lot of bragging rights.

“As a home chef and a barbecue enthusiast for over 10 years it was a wonderful adventure to create chicken, ribs, brisket and pulled pork dishes for the judges to sample and enjoy,” said Rinaldo. “I met great people and wonderful vendors who also love the art of cooking. I was quite delighted to win the ribs and brisket categories and I look forward to participating again next year!”

The BBQ categories were for best Ribs, Brisket, Chicken, and Pulled Pork, with a $500 prize to the winner of each category. There was also a $100 prize for the "People's Favorite Vendor" where customers were able to vote on their favorite truck. Home BBQ entries did not compete in the fan favorite part of the competition.

The sanctioned event hosted a panel of five judges conducting a blind tasting. Each entry was judged on Taste (1-15 Points), Tenderness (1-10 Points) and Appearance (1-5 Points). Highest total being 30 points.

Other winners at the event were Kimchi Smoke, from Montclair and Westwood who took 1st. Prize for Pulled Pork, while Carlitos from Jersey City took 1st. Prize for their Chicken, each took home $500.

Delicious BBQ was the People’s Choice winner and received $100. They can be found at the Meadowlands complex every weekend.
