WESTFIELD, NJ — Hitting the Black Friday and Small Business Saturday sales? Annette Ferrigno, owner of Kids for Kids, a Mindfulness Movement hopes you’ll put something for a child you don’t know on your shopping list.

This is the third year that Ferrigno has headed up a toy drive for less fortunate kids in the area.

“It literally is hands down the best part of my holiday,” Ferrigno said. Except, she added, sharing the experience with her own kids.

“Research has shown that giving — particularly giving to those truly in need — can improve one’s emotional struggles. I believe that holiday giving, if paced well, can be a natural aphrodisiac. It’s a wonderful way to gain perspective and to turn your holiday strain into uplifting another one’s pain,” said Ferrigno, who is a licensed clinical social worker and a trained play therapist.

Toys collected will go to Wynona's House Child Advocacy Center in Newark and YWCA Union County PALS (Peace a Learned Solution), a program that offers creative arts therapy and counseling for children ages 3-17 who have witnessed domestic violence in their homes.

New toys can be dropped off until Dec. 16 at Farinolio in Westfield, Kilwins in Westfield, &grain in Garwood, The Juice House in Garwood, Massage Envy in Garwood, European Wax Center in Garwood, Salon Four in Scotch Plains and The Little Shop of Comics in Scotch Plains.

The toy drive will end with a “bang” of a party at Pump it Up in Roselle Park next month, where teen volunteers dressed as Santa and his elves will make the season merry for children participating in YWCA PALS. Pump it Up has graciously offered their space as a host location, Ferrigno said.

So far, Ferraro’s, Italian Village, Bovella’s Pastry Shoppe, Fiamma and the Coffee Box have offered to contribute to the party, Ferrigno said.

Anyone looking to get involved this year or in years to come can contact Kids for Kids at marissamastro@gmail.com or visit mindfulkidsforkids.com.
