ROSELLE, NJ – The Borough of Roselle has recently launched a program that allows local businesses to sponsor municipal events. Just four months in, the program is already paying off say, officials.
This year’s House Music Festival, which was held on July 13 and 14, received a total of $9,000 from local sponsors to offset the cost of the event, borough officials announced on Tuesday.
This year’s festival attracted thousands of attendees from all across New Jersey, combining great music with great food to create one of Roselle’s best events for the sixth year in a row.
Sponsors this year include Wei’s Buffet, PSE&G and Roselle Bank.
The program is split into three levels – silver, gold, and platinum – offering a variety of different marketing opportunities for businesses.
Fifth Ward Councilman John Fortuna, who initiated the sponsorship program as a way to reduce costs to borough taxpayers, said that he was pleased with the number of sponsors that have expressed interest since April.
“The entire reason we looked into implementing a program such as this is to relieve the burden on taxpayers,” Fortuna said. “We know we can create memorable programs for our residents without making them a costly burden.”
The sponsorship program will be used for other Recreation Department events moving forward, Fortuna said, adding that this program is a “good example of the community working together.”
Other local businesses have already shown interest in sponsoring future events at various levels, according to Director of Recreation Donald Shaw.
“This program is exciting for the department as we plan upcoming events. We can now offset some of the cost, give great exposure to some local businesses and perhaps, ultimately, create the programs that could be of zero cost to the Borough,” Shaw said. “That, of course, is the goal.”
Every year, the Department of Recreation sponsors 30 different events and programs for residents of all ages.
Some upcoming events include the Multicultural Event in September, the Veterans Day Breakfast in November and the annual Christmas Tree Lighting and Winter Wonderland event.
