ROSELLE, NJ — The Roselle Borough Council will hold a special meeting to pass a resolution providing for the appointment of a new Mayor. The meeting will be held Thursday, July 30 at 5:30 p.m. on Zoom. Residents can join by using the meeting ID: 832 5474 4173 or by following the link on the borough website.

The Mayoral seat became vacant when former Mayor Dansereau resigned at the end of June due to health issues. Council President Denise Wilkerson has been acting mayor since July 1.

The process for appointing a new mayor began when the Roselle Democratic Committee put forth three candidates to succeed Mayor Dansereau to the council. The council will then decide to appoint one or none of the candidates as mayor.

A majority of council members have to approve the appointee for them to become mayor. New Jersey statute states that if the council rejects all of the Committee's candidates the municipal clerk can set a special election to fill the seat.
