ROSELLE PARK, NJ - Sustainable Jersey representatives announced today that the Borough of Roselle Park has met the rigorous requirements to achieve Sustainable Jersey certification. Roselle Park is one of 83 towns to attained certification in 2019 and was honored at the Sustainable Jersey awards luncheon on Tuesday, November 19 in Atlantic City with Green Team and Council members accepting the award.

Mayor Joseph Signorello III said, “I’m proud of the work we’ve done to maintain our bronze certification. It’s a testament to the commitment our borough and green team have to sustainability in Roselle Park. I look forward to supporting the green team in their efforts toward silver certification.”

To become Sustainable Jersey certified, Roselle Park submitted documentation to show it had completed a balance of the required sustainability actions, meeting a minimum of 150 action points. In addition to reaching 150 points, each certified community had to create a green team and select at least 2 out of 12 priority action options. Roselle Park reached 165 points, meeting 2 of the 12 priority actions by completing the Prescription Drug Safety and Disposal action and the Sustainable Land Use Pledge action in addition to completing 18 actions in 10 of 18 categories. Roselle Park is one of two Union County municipalities awarded certification.

“Congratulations to all of the municipalities that have achieved certification this year,” said Randy Solomon, executive director of Sustainable Jersey. “Earning certification involves more than just implementing sustainable actions. It takes extraordinary leadership and a real commitment to making our communities better. As New Jersey tops the list as one of the fastest-warming states in the nation, the next ten years will be a critical period for making progress. Sustainable Jersey certified towns are a force for change as they create a path forward to advance sustainability.” Certified towns excelled in areas such as improving energy efficiency, health and wellness, reducing waste, sustaining local economies, protecting natural resources and advancing the arts.

Roselle Park registered with Sustainable Jersey in 2018 and appointed Michele LoManto as Green Team Chairperson and agent for the borough. The team hit the ground running, receiving their first bronze certification on December 13, 2018.  The green team applied for a $10,000 grant funded by the PSEG Foundation to complete the borough’s first-ever Environmental Resource Inventory and was awarded in March 2019. and is the official electronic news source for your town!
