ROSELLE PARK, NJ - The Roselle Park community is morning the passing of an Icon this week as James D. “Jim” Vigliotti, 96, died on Wednesday, October 16, 2019.

Born in Newark, NJ, Vigliotti resided in Roselle Park since 1957 and was a retired truck driver for Linden Motor Freight. He was A World War II Veteran and a member of the VFW Post 9119, Knights of Columbus Council 3240, the Citizens for Educational Advisory Committee, Holy Name Society of Church of the Assumption, and was a chairman of the Roselle Park Community Blood Bank for 31 years.

He very active at the Church of the Assumption in Roselle Park and worked as a trustee, choral director, leader of song, choir member and soloist for various occasions.

Residents of Roselle Park also knew Vigliotti for his singing for the Fireman’s Memorial Services, the Veteran’s Memorial Parades, and at Borough Hall events.

“Mr. Vigliotti was a staple of the community and for those of us who patronized the Church of the Assumption, it was a blessing to hear at Sunday Mass. While we will miss him dearly Jim’s warmth, kindness, and impact on his beloved borough will remain with us for generations,” said Mayor Joseph Signorello III.

Police Chief Daniel J. McCaffery posted on social media, “The entire Roselle Park Police Department would like to offer our sincerest condolences to the family of Mr. James D. Vigliotti on his passing. Mr. Vigliotti was a true Roselle Park icon.”

Funeral Services for Vigliotti will be at the Mastapeter Funeral Home, 400 Faitoute Ave., in Roselle Park, on Tuesday, October 22, at 8:30 a.m. 

A Funeral Mass will be offered at Church of the Assumption in Roselle Park at 10 am. Interment will follow to Graceland Memorial Park in Kenilworth.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday.

Vigliotti was predeceased by his beloved wife Jean (nee: Califano) Vigliotti.

He is survived by his daughter Marilyn Rottmann (Jim), sons James A Vigliotti (Cathy), and Donald J. Vigliotti (Kathy), grandchildren John Popovich, Alyson Rose, Dana Bennett (Dan), Mark Vigliotti (Catherine), Alyssa Vigliotti, and great-grandchildren Harrison Fairchild and Isabella Vigliotti.

In lieu of flowers, it is asked to donate to the Center for Hope Hospice in Elizabeth or a charity of your choice in Jim’s Vigliotti’s memory.
