ROSELLE. NJ - The Roselle Police Dept. sent out a notice this week on social media reminding residents to remember to lock their car doors every night.
“Help us to reduce motor vehicle burglaries with a few simple steps to make your vehicle a less attractive target. LOCK your car, TAKE your keys and HIDE your belongings. Call the police department if you see any suspicious activity” Roselle Police
"Don’t be fooled by thinking it can’t happen to you,” said one Roselle resident after they caught it on their video camera.
Cars can get broken into everywhere, but there are some things that you can do to stop thieves from trying to get into your car.
Like the police suggested above, Lock Your Car! Whether it's kids on a bike or someone looking to steal from your car, they usually will move on if your vehicle is locked.
Again as the police noted above, remember when you get out of your car to make sure your valuables are out of sight. Never leave things lying out on your seats, dashboard or floor, like cell phones, wallets or purses or even cash, and always take your keys out of your car!
If you are at your home and you have security cameras, make sure they are always activated at all times, as this homeowner does.
Below is the video taken by that Roselle resident and the incident that happened one morning at 5:55 a.m. this past week. The video shows that thief, in this case, had already been across the street and stole items from another car. They then walk across the street, ignoring the security light that turns on, and checks the car doors.
When this resident was told about the break-in across the street, they looked at their camera videos and found that their car too had been approached. In this case, their car was locked, so the thief got nothing.
One last note, if you have camera’s you should check the video recorded regularly, you may be surprised at what you will find!
