SPRINGFIELD, NJ – Dayton faced Roselle Park on a cold and windy Monday afternoon at home and lost 9-3. The Bulldogs are now 1-2 on the season.
The Panthers led 4-0 after the top of the third inning. The Bulldogs scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning and narrowed the lead to 4-3. Freshman Abby Wilson singled and moved to second base on a walk to junior Maggie Phillips. Senior Holly Wilson brought them home with her second home run of the season. Those were the only two hits the Bulldogs would get off of the Panthers’ pitcher Madison Hummel.
The Panthers scored five more runs in the top of the fifth inning to complete the scoring for the game.
Hummel pitched all seven innings, walked two, hit one batter and struck out ten.
Freshmen Nicole Cataldo and Jesse Thompson pitched for Dayton and gave up 17 hits. All nine runs were earned.
Six Panthers got two or more hits. Angelina Chacon went four for five. Hummel went three for five and brought in a run.
Madison Cieslinski and Paige Junior went two for four, while Emma Cieslinski and Sarah LIpin went two for five.
Merissa Gilic and Hailey Ortega each had a hit. Gilic’s was a three-run home run. Alexis Cieslinksi sacrificed and had two RBIs.
Dayton plays at 0-2 Scotch Plains-Fanwood Tuesday, April 10 at 4 p.m.
Roselle Park is now 2-0 and plays at 2-1 Benedictine Tuesday, April 10.
