ROXBURY, N.J. - The chilly wind did little to dampen the enthusiasm today as township manager Christopher Raths flicked a ceremonial switch that bathed Main Street, Succasunna in the glow of new streetlights.

Designed to replicate old-time gaslamps, the lights are part of an effort to improve the appearance of the historic thoroughfare. The project, which also included new sidewalks, a patio and a clock, was the work product of the Main Street Streetscape Committee. The cost of nearly $300,000 involved the use of grants and money gathered through fundraising efforts, but no tax dollars, said committee members Jen Wasek and Sue Anderson.

Raths thanked Michael Paxos, of Paxos Electric Co. of Succasunna, for donating his services to the project. Pointing to the yet-to-be-improved south side of the street, the manager noted the committee just received a grant that will help fund similar work there.
