ROXBURY, NJ – The June 11 Roxbury Color Fun Run raised about $12,000, money that will be used by the Kindness for Christopher organization to help fund projects in Roxbury, said Roxbury Rotary Club member Steven Alford.

Kindness for Christopher, formed by Chris and Laura Tyrpak D’Amico in 2015 after their 10-year-old son, Christopher, died in a Lake Hopatcong boating accident, advocates acts of kindness. Alford said the money raised at the Color Fun Run will be earmarked by the D’Amicos “for various programs in town that their son Christopher would have liked.”

Alford said the event was “a massive success” that also served as a community memorial for Michael Katzenberger, a well-known Kenvil man who died June 8 at 50 years old. The Color Fun Run, organized by the Roxbury High School Interact Club, was dedicated to Katzenberger. “Michael’s family came to help us all grieve and to heal together,” Alford said.

“It was also a sad day because, after six years of having Kaila and her sister Mackenzie Mathis as officers in the Interact Club, they will now both be off at college,” Alford said. “Those two incredible girls completely changed the culture and size of our club and are directly responsible for the success of all the color runs and countless other fundraisers that benefited the town of Roxbury. They are literally heroes in my mind and they did it all as casually as most people eat their morning breakfast. I will miss them.”

Alford thanked the event’s sponsors: Fullerton Grounds Maintenance; PJ's Auto Body; Tim Smith and family; Infinity Entertainment; Succasunna Lukoil; Jersey Mikes and Kenvil Dairy Queen. “They allowed us to have zero expenses for the run,” he said. “They made the run possible.”

Necessary Discussion and Debate of Addressing School Violence

June 10, 2018

Dear Editor,

As of late, due to most disturbing acts of violence against children in our schools, there is much vigorous debate regarding gun control and protection of our children and grand-children.

Much of the debate is based on emotion rather than reasoned thought.

I think that exploration in three areas needs to be more thoroughly discussed and debated. The first is ...
