ROXBURY, N.J. - Might you be from patriot stock?
One way to possibly find out if you're descended from someone who fought for America's independence is to show up Oct. 8 at the Roxbury Public Library for a "lineage workshop.'"
The event is being conducted by the Ferro-Monte Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). The group will start the day, at 10:15 a.m. with its "New Member Social Saturday," said Ferr-Monte Chapter Regent Kim Armstrong.
"The New Member Social is a wonderful time to meet new friends, catch-up with old friends and learn about our Revolutionary patriots," said Armstrong in a statement. She said the lineage workshop "to assist prospective members to find a patriot in their tree," will take place after the group's main meeting,
Ferro-Monte Chapter meetings take place at the library, at 103 Main St, Succasunna, at 10:15 a.m. the 2nd Saturday of the month from October through March. "Prospective members are always welcome," Armstrong said. "If you have an interest in learning about your family tree, we can help you; maybe we can even find a patriot among your leaves."
The DAR is a volunteer women’s service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, historic preservation and better education for children through commemorative events, scholarships and educational initiatives, citizenship programs, service to veterans, meaningful community service and more. "Membership is open to any woman 18 or older who can prove lineal descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence," according to Armstrong.
