ROXBURY, NJ – Some senior citizens in the Roxbury area had special Valentine’s Days this year thanks to Boy Scouts from Troop 163.
As part of its Valentines for Seniors project, the Roxbury based scout troop invited elementary students from Franklin Elementary School and Lincoln Roosevelt School to make Valentine’s Day cards for seniors. The children created more than 200 cards.
The Boy Scouts then distributed the cards to elderly residents living at Mount Arlington Senior Living in Mount Arlington and Merry Heart Nursing Home and Assisted Living in Succasunna.
The seniors were surprised by the unexpected gesture. One man said he’d not received a Valentine’s Day card in many years, and a woman said she was deeply touched that the children remembered her and the others at the facility.
It was the second year the troop did the card project. Last year, the scouts collected and distributed about 40 cards. The boys expressed thanks to the children and school staff for helping them makes this year’s event so much bigger and better.
