ROXBURY, NJ – Parents of students in Roxbury are being asked to “pay attention” to their children’s reactions to news that a 13-year-old attending Eisenhower Middle School died today.

The request was part of an 11 a.m.  “Honeywell” alert sent to parents by Roxbury Schools Superintendent Loretta Radulic. In the alert, Radulic informed parents that the student, Maya Guberman, died earlier in the morning.

Radulic said counselors willing to work with affected children and families will be available at Eisenhower Middle School on Friday, starting at 8 a.m.

Guberman is the niece of long-time Jefferson School teacher Dana Taggart. The circumstances of the child’s death were not revealed.

The uncle of one Eisenhower School student said his niece – a friend of Guberman - was allowed to go home early.

Radulic said she was releasing the limited information about the incident “with deep sadness and the family’s permission.” She asked that people show consideration to the Guberman family.

“I am asking that you respect the privacy of the family, but keep them in your kind thoughts,” wrote the superintendent. “Know that we have been working with administration and staff to share resources available to our students. From you, parents, we ask that you please pay attention to your children's reactions.”
