GLEN ROCK, NJ – The Roxbury High School boys lacrosse team defeated Glen Rock on Saturday in an 11-8 victory that gives the Gaels home field advantage in the upcoming state tournament.
The game was the team’s last matchup of the regular season. The Gaels are scheduled to host Morris Knolls in the first round of the states on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
During the Glen Rock game, the Gaels took a commanding lead early, going up 3-1 by the end of the first quarter. Glen Rock chipped away at Roxbury’s lead, bringing the score to 4-3 in favor of Roxbury by the end of the first half.
The Gaels kept up the heat in the third quarter, but almost threw the game away by allowing Glen Rock to score a tying goal with less than four minutes left on the clock.
At that point the score was 8-8. Roxbury was determined to not lose another close game and the Gaels managed to put the game away by scoring three goals to close out the day and a success-filled regular season.
