ROXBURY, NJ - Some of Roxbury’s youngest learners, the kids in Patti Klein’s preschool class at Jefferson Elementary School, took part in this year’s Fire Prevention Week.

October is Fire Prevention Month and since 1922, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has celebrated and recognized the second week of October as Fire Prevention Week in commemoration of the Great Chicago Fire in 1871.

“The children made special dalmatian hats and pretended to be firemen," Klein said. "The children learned how to keep safe and stay away from things that are hot and dangerous. We also practiced how to stop, drop and roll.”

The goal of Fire Prevention Month is to raise fire safety awareness while educating families, students and communities. This year’s NFPA campaign for Fire Safety Month is “Serve Up Fire Safety in the Kitchen.”
