ROXBURY, NJ - Kennedy Elementary School Principal Eric Renfors looked like a villain out of a Batman movie on Tuesday, all for a good cause. As he's done in the past few years, Renfors participated in No-Shave November by only shaving off half his beard.

The goal of No-Shave November is to grow awareness by embracing our hair, which many cancer patients lose, and letting it grow wild and free. People who participate are asked to donate the money they typically spend on shaving and grooming to educate about cancer prevention, save lives and aid those fighting the battle.

Renfors does something slightly different. He gets his students involved.

Using flash fundraisers, Renfors invites everyone to send in a dollar. If he raises enough money to cover each Kennedy School student and staff member, which comes to $243, he shaves off half of his beard and spends the day half-bearded and half-clean shaved.

This year’s Renfors said, “I’m going to choose the ‘aid those fighting the battle’ angle for this cause and donate all money raised to the Adonis family, whose son Matt is a fourth grade student at Nixon School and who is currently battling brain cancer.”

Renfors hoped for at least $243. The students and staff raised $303. So on Tuesday morning, Renfors shaved off has half his beard and spent the whole day like that, even through the Hour of Code assembly with students, staff and parents.

“Thank you to everyone for supporting this worthwhile cause,” he commented.
