ROXBURY, NJ – A show by a professional rock band that includes a Roxbury High School teacher on bass has been added to tomorrow's “Roxbury Summer Kickoff,” a new event taking place at Horseshoe Lake Park in Succasunna.
The Roxbury High School Student Council, which created the Kickoff, is hard at work preparing for the event and is excited that the band, The Hollow, agreed to play, said Student Council President Kaila Mathis.
The Hollow, which will perform from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., features Roxbury High School teacher James Goodwin on electric bass. “They're a really upbeat band and family-friendly,” Mathis said.
So, for $5, or $3 with a canned food donation to Roxbury Social Services, those who go to the Kickoff will get three hours of music by Jackson, N.J.-based cover band Sweet Little Soul, a 2-hour performance by The Hollow and other entertainment, Mathis said.
Additionally, there will be food for sale by the Taxi Cab Burger, My Four Suns Asian Fusion and Good Humor Ice Cream food trucks, Mathis said. The student council will be selling hot dogs in the pavilion, she added.
Although the Student Council wanted the event to last until 9 p.m., “safety regulations for when everyone is trying to leave, which they can’t do in the dark” forced it to have the Kickoff, which begins at noon, to end at sunset, Mathis said.
“We are really excited for Saturday, and can't wait to see the town come together for a fun day of food trucks, live bands, outdoor games, vendors and more,” Mathis said.
