ROXBURY, NJ - New Jersey American Water (NJAW) will begin this month replacing almost 4,000 feet of old water main in Roxbury, the company said in a statement.
The project will involve upgrading 8-inch-diameter water lines, installed in the 1960s, that run along Toby Drive in Succasunna between Parkview Drive and Holly Drive, said NJAW.
The old lines will be replaced with new, 12-inch-diameter ductile iron main. Also being replaced will be four fire hydrants and 59 utility-owned service lines along the pipeline route, NJAW said.
“This $1.1 million investment will continue to advance water service reliability and increase water flows for household consumption and fire protection in this community,” said the company. “This improvement is part of New Jersey American Water’s multimillion-dollar initiative to accelerate the renewal of water infrastructure that has reached the end of its useful life in more than 100 communities across the state.”
The work will be done by NJAW contractor Montana Construction, Inc. and should be finished in about two and a half months, weather permitting, said NJAW.
It said work will take place between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. “Work outside of these hours is not expected unless required to maintain project schedule,” the company said. “Final street restorations will be completed by the township in the late summer or early fall of 2021.”
NJAW said drivers in the area can expect some restrictions and/or alternating traffic patterns during work hours. “All emergency vehicles and local traffic will be allowed access during construction,” it said. “New Jersey American Water values the safety of its workers and advises drivers and pedestrians to take caution in the vicinity of work sites.”
NJAW asked customers to “adhere to social distancing rules for everyone’s safety” and refrain from asking questions of site workers. “If a customer sees a crew performing work in their area, and wishes to ask a question about it, they are encouraged to visit the website or the company’s Facebook or Twitter pages, or call Customer Service at (800) 272-1325,” it said.
NJAW, based in Voorhees, completed its acquisition of the Roxbury Water Company in January 2019, taking over about 3,900 customers of the former company, a Succasunna-based, family-owned business founded in 1954.
