MORRISTOWN, NJ - The HIRE Learning Nurse Residency Program at Atlantic Health System’s Morristown Medical Center is the first acute care program in New Jersey, and the 86th in the nation, to be accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Practice Transition Accreditation Program (PTAP)™. The residency program is accredited with distinction, the highest recognition awarded by the ANCC.
Morristown Medical Center’s HIRE Learning Residency Program provides one-year on-the-job training for eligible candidates who have recently graduated from nursing school. Focusing on continuum of care, the program provides those accepted with a customized orientation, followed by work experience with registered nurses and nurse educators who offer both instruction and mentorship.
In addition, through the Full Circle Observational Learning Experience, residents can shadow nurses in the units of their specialty, gaining an in-depth understanding of how to provide comprehensive care. Recognizing that nursing is a round-the-clock endeavor, the residency has two full-time night-shift educators whose role is to support nurse residents who may need help during overnight hours.
“Morristown Medical Center is preparing nurses for the future, and our HIRE Learning Nurse Residency, created in 2006, is a way to ensure tomorrow’s nurses are best prepared,” said Carol Jones, RN, Chief Nursing Officer, Morristown Medical Center. “We know strong mentors and real-time experience across different units and roles are critical to developing talent and expertise, as many of our current nurse leaders, educators and preceptors are prior HIRE Learning Nurse Residents.”
The residency program has a one-year retention rate of 95% and a two-year retention rate of 92% of graduates who remain at Morristown Medical Center after their training.
The American Nurses Credentialing Center accreditation is a three-year accreditation, running through April 2022.
