ROXBURY, NJ – The owner of a Roxbury auto body shop is inviting the public to attend the dedication of a new flagpole he recently installed at his business.

Ed Korpos, who owns Ken’s Auto Body on Route 46 in Ledgewood (a TAPinto Roxbury sponsor), will host the Dec. 1 event scheduled for 11:30 a.m.

The Roxbury native, who began working at the shop when he was 18, said he wanted to do something to show his love of America and his respect for those in the armed forces.

“We’re doing it just for patriotic reasons,” Korpos said. “We want to support our country and our leadership and our first-responders and our veterans who give us the freedom to do what we want to do.”

There will be members of the Kenvil VFW post attending the dedication ceremony for the 40-foot-tall flagpole and saying a few words. Also expected to attend are some Roxbury Boy Scouts, firefighters, emergency medical personnel, police and town council members.

There will be sandwiches at the event, catered by Sandwiches Unlimited Lunch Box, also a TAPinto Roxbury sponsor.

Korpos said he always felt gratitude toward those in the armed forces. But he wasn’t motivated until recently to get a flagpole for his business. “It all started when the NFL players took a knee,” he said. “That’s when I started looking into this more. We really need to pay tribute to our servicemen and women who fight for us.”

Ken’s Auto Body is at 1280 Route 46 (eastbound). The ceremony will be in front, but there will be parking available on Main Street behind the shop, Korpos said.
