ROXBURY, NJ — The Roxbury High School Interact Club is collecting items on behalf of a Ledgewood family that lost its home to fire Saturday as money pours into an online fundraising campaign created soon after the incident.

The club, the high school arm of the Roxbury Rotary Club, will give the donated items to Chris Annunziata and her three children, Peter, Nicholas and Mia. The family was displaced from its home at 4 Rutgers Place due to a fire that took place shortly after 8 p.m., when power was restored to the neighborhood.

The club said it is hoping people will donate clothing items in the following sizes:

GoFundMe Donations Soar

On Sunday, a friend of Annunziata created an online GoFundMe page, hoping to raise $10,000. By 2 p.m. Monday, the site had raised nearly $20,000.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Neighbors said it appeared to break out right after Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) restored power to the area, which had been without electricity since Tuesday.

Annunziata and her family were not at home at the time but their pet beagle was there. The dog was rescued by Roxbury Police Patrolman Steve Strowbridge, who crawled beneath the smoke to retrieve the animal and then performed CPR on it to save its life, police said.
