The return, which begins Nov. 30, includes town workers “switching to a more remote working environment,” said township Manager John Shepherd. It is necessitated by recent increases in the amount of coronavirus cases in the area, said Shepherd.
“Our goal is to keep employees in a safe environment so that they are able to continue to provide services to township residents,” Shepherd said in an email.
He stressed that township employees will remain available via email or phone and asked members of the public to use those methods to contact town officials prior to coming to Town Hall “since public access to buildings will be limited.”
A list of department phone numbers is available here.
Township employees “will be able to provide assistance if there is a need to pick-up or drop-off documents,” Shepherd said.
Figures provided on the township website show the township has had 607 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic. There were 316 as of July 31.
“We are seeing a continued increase in cases,” said Shepherd. “Over the past few weeks, the numbers have been increasing … I do not have any specific death data for Roxbury—that did not impact this decision.”
Shepherd said the new remote work plan for town employees “will be very similar” to the operations plan instituted in March.
“We will be using remote work options for those employees who are able to work remotely,” he explained. “This will reduce our exposure at our various work sites. We will also be further limiting public access to our buildings unless necessary. We are encouraging mail usage for document delivery that is not available electronically.”
The decision comes two days after Roxbury Schools Superintendent Loretta Radulic announced the return to all remote instruction for Roxbury High School and Eisenhower Middle School students due to COVID-19 cases.
