ROXBURY, NJ - Forty athletes from the Strong Together Roxbury CrossFit in Ledgewood are currently participating in a worldwide event to find the most physically fit person on the planet.
The contest, the "CrossFit Open" begins on Thursday and runs for five weeks. It is dubbed "the world's premier test to find the Fittest on Earth," and is known to be a grueling test for the toughest athletes on earth as well as a thrilling experience for spectators.
Strong Together Roxbury CrossFit is one of the vibrant communities of athletes that's come alive due to the entrepreneurial spirit of affiliate owner Frank Spina. Spina opened the business Route 46 in January 2017 and recently celebrated its first anniversary.
“I am ecstatic for my athletes that will be participating in the open this year," said Spina. “These athletes work so hard every day and the CrossFit Open is a great way to test the progress they have made the past year.”
The community that spontaneously arises when people do CrossFit workouts together is a key component of why CrossFit is so effective, and it gave birth to a global network of CrossFit affiliates that number over 13,000. Harnessing the natural camaraderie, competition and fun of sport or game yields an intensity that cannot be matched by other means.
“The way our community has come together for the CrossFit Open is extraordinary, everyone is very excited,” said Glenn Hopler, a coach at Strong Together Roxbury Fitness.
Every week, the athletes will record their results and then be ranked with other athletes from around the world. “The ability for our athletes to measure their functional fitness, the cumulative effect of what they work on every day, is a tremendous exercise and I am excited for everyone participating,” said Steve Rogalsky, another coach at Strong Together Roxbury Fitness.
