Roxbury Baseball 11U Takes Cal Ripken District Championship

ROXBURY, NJ - The Roxbury 11U baseball team won the Cal Ripken District 7 Championship this past week led by outstanding pitching and timely hitting. 

The Jr. Gaels beat Montville 5-4 to advance to the State Tournament that begins next week in Basking Ridge. 

Colin Richter pitched five stellar innings for the win. Matt Ratty sealed the game by closing out the sixth inning for the 5-4 victory.

Roxbury played solid defensive games throughout the tournament led by shortstop Ryan Johannessen, Roxbury catcher Mikey Peia was rock solid behind the plate as well as with the bat 

After trailing 2-0, the Jr. Gaels got things going at the plate when David Rubenstein and Matt Capko had big hits to start off the second inning and helping tie the game at 2. Capko had two hits in the game as he continued his hot hitting over the tournament.

Joey Ronchetta had two hits and drove in the third run for the Gaels to take the lead in the bottom of the third.  Christopher DiTrolio extended the lead to 5-2 with a 2-run home run in the third. Anthony Skawinski and Justin Mound each had clutch hits during the tournament to spark Roxbury during pool play.

Leo Giammarino pitched a complete game in the semifinal route over Mount Olive. Roxbury won 10-0 to advance to the District Championship. Giammarino allowed only one hit while striking out eight to earn the win.
