ROXBURY, NJ - The Roxbury High School baseball team beat Ramapo on Thursday to advance in state tournament play, a win that sets up the third-seeded Gaels to take on second-seeded Montville in semi-final action on Tuesday.
Roxbury defeated sixth-seeded Ramapo 6-2, riding high on a great performance by freshman pitcher Jack Findlay. He threw a complete game, striking out five and holding Ramapo to only four hits.
Roxbury took an early lead in the bottom of the first, scoring three runs on RBI doubles by Andy Axelson and Michael Roumes, along with an RBI single by Ryan Ditrolio. Roxbury manufactured one more run in the third and two more in the sixth to cap its scoring. During the contest, Roxbury took advantage of several costly errors and walks.
Findlay pitched his way out of trouble in the third after Ramapo scored its only runs.
Roxbury, 16-7-1, will play today against its rivals from Randolph. The Gaels lost to the Rams in the teams' prior meeting.
