UNION CITY, NJ – The Roxbury baseball team headed to "The Eagle's Nest," the unique rooftop ball field of Union City High School, on Saturday morning and found the sky was the limit when it came to scoring runs.
The Gaels clobbered the Union City Soaring Eagles 15-7. It was the third win in a row for Roxbury, which now has a 3-0 record.
The contest did not begin as a blowout. After the second inning, the score was tied at 7-7 and the Gaels only managed to move the tally ahead by one run in the third.
But the Gaels charged ahead in the fourth inning, scoring five runs and holding Union City to none. After a scoreless fifth, Roxbury tagged on two more in the sixth, when the Soaring Eagles managed one. A no-run final inning ended the game, leaving Roxbury with 16 hits to Union City’s six.
The win – his first of the season - went to pitcher Eric Simonsen, who threw 41. Pitcher Michael Roumes tossed 36 and pitcher Jared Schimenti threw 15.
The Gaels play at home Monday against Morristown.
