ROXBURY, NJ - The Roxbury High School baseball team on Monday easily beat Old Tappan in NJSIAA North Jersey Section 1, Group 3 tournament first round action.
The Gaels jumped out to an early 5-1 lead in the first inning with five base hits, four coming consecutively. They added three more in the fourth and and another four more runs in the sixth to extend their lead to 12-2, bringing the game to an end as the mercy rule went into effect.
Roxbury’s Will Findlay and Michael Roumes had outstanding performances at the plate, going four for four while Andy Axelson had a solid day as well, going three for four with a double. All combined, the three sluggers had 11 base hits and nine RBIs between them.
In addition, Jared Schimenti had a pair of singles while Brian Dachowski, Ryan Ditrolio, Brendon Hoagland and Donovan Brady all had base hits to round out the Roxbury offensive attack.
Once again, senior Brady pitched superbly, going the distance while allowing only two runs on six hits. Brady did a great job mixing up his fastball, curve-ball and change-up as he kept the Old Tappan offense off balance throughout the game.
Roxbury will take on Ramapo next in the state tournament, but first they play a regular season game against Warren Hills tomorrow.
