ROXBURY, NJ – The satisfaction experienced Thursday, when the Roxbury High School boys basketball team beat Jefferson by one point, was dulled today when the Gaels fell to Jersey City’s Ferris High School at home.
No fourth period heroics, like the on-the-buzzer Brandon Lessig 3-pointer that won the Jefferson game, were available in the Ferris contest. The Gaels lost 52-47 in a close game.
Roxbury entered the second period ahead 14-11 but Ferris came back to score 16 points, to Roxbury’s 12 in the second. The teams entered the third period with Ferris having only a 1-point lead, but the Gaels fell flat in the next frame, scoring only six to their oppoents’ 13.
Roxbury outscored the Jersey City team in the final period, 15-13, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit created in the prior frame.
The loss brings the Gaels’ record to 4-8. Their next game comes Tuesday when they take on Morris Knolls on the road.
