ROXBURY, NJ – The Roxbury High School boys lacrosse team is off to a good start, winning its first two games of the season. The team, on Saturday, beat Wayne Valley 11-6.

It wasn't until the last minutes of the first quarter for the ball to go in the net, putting the Roxbury Gaels up 1-0.  Even though the Indians of Wayne Valley kept pressing and scoring an occasional goal, the Gaels continued to build their lead and ended the first half 5-2.

The second half was slowed by numerous penalties on both ends of the field. But the Gaels defense - lead by goalie Wayne Safreed - kept the Indians corralled while Roxbury’s offense rolled on, ending any chance for the Indians to come back.

Safreed made ten saves.

The Gaels’ next game is Tuesday at 4 p.m. at home against Sparta. This will be the real test for the team. Last season, the Gaels lost to Sparta 10-6, which placed Sparta on top of the Rizk Division over Roxbury.
