MENDHAM, NJ - The Roxbury High School boys lacrosse team dropped one Saturday to Mendham in a contest that began with low scoring from both sides.

By the end of the first two periods, the score card looked more like the box score of a soccer game than a lacrosse game. The teams went into the half tied at 1-1.

It was not until the thirdrd quarter that goals began to happen when Mendham scored four and Roxbury scored two. However, the offensive action subsided in the fourth quarter.

Although the final frame did not see much scoring, it was hardly boring as Roxbury's Dave Biank scored the game-tying goal with three seconds left on the clock to send the game into sudden-death overtime.

Roxbury had an opportunity to win the game, but the all-important shot wound up finding the goalie's basket chest high. Mendham took possession while the Roxbury defense frantically tried to fend off the attack. It was to no avail; Mendham won 6-5

Stats: Dave Biank: two goals; Matt Dances: two goals; Paul Shadel: one goal; Eric D'Arminio and Grant Dixon each had an assist. Goalie Brandon Maresca had six saves.

The Gaels, now 9-6, next play Monday against Governor Livingston at home.
