ROXBURY, NJ - The Roxbury boys lacrosse team no longer has to wait until Monday to find out if it will win the NJAC Freedom Division. By the Gaels beating Vernon 11-5 and then Morris Knolls beating Randolph 6-5 this morning, the Gaels were catapulted into sole first place with no chance of being caught.

This is the first time in Roxbury school history that the boys lacrosse team has taken sole first place in any division. The last time boys lacrosse won a title it was a 3-way tie for first place in the NJILL Klank Division in 2009.

"We are certainly excited to win the conference outright," Coach Chris Blough commented after hearing of the Randolph loss.

Todays game against Vernon (6-4) started off slowly with a first quarter score of only 2-1 in favor of Roxbury.

The Gaels defensive pressure kept the ball out of the hands of the Vikings of Vernon allowing the Gaels offense time to score four goals before the half ended with a 6-2 Roxbury lead.

In the 3rd quarter the scoring was equaled with 2 goals for each team.

The Gaels defense virtually shut down the Vikings by allowing only one goal in the 4th quarter while Roxbury's offensive machine tacked on 3 more goals to end the game 11-5.

The Gaels are now 10-2 on the season.

If Roxbury beats Kittatinny (1-6) on Monday afternoon the Gaels will have gone undefeated in the NJAC Freedom Division.
