ROXBURY - With Mother Nature showing no sign of relinquishing her plan to rain on Roxbury's Memorial Day Parade, the event's organizer tonight decided to pull the plug.

"This is a first for me," said Christine Houtz minutes after deciding to cancel the big event. She's been organizing the annual parade for six years at the request of the Roxbury Mayor and Council.

Although there will be no parade, there will still be a ceremony to honor America's veterans. It will take place at 11 a.m. at VFW Post 2833 in Kenvil, said Houtz.

The rain, from a tropical depression, is expected to begin tonight and last, on and off. through Monday night, said the National Weather Service. It said there are likely to be strong thunderstorms tonight.
