ROXBURY, NJ - Six choirs from Roxbury High School achieved gold ratings recently at a competition in Washington D.C.

Competing in the annual Heritage Festival were the Roxbury Men’s Choir, Melodies, Vocal Jazz, Revelation, Chorale, and Classic Sounds Honors under the direction of Patrick Hachey, Krista Sweer and R. Daniel Salyerds.

In addition to achieving six gold ratings, Roxbury choirs also received the Sweepstakes Award, given to the highest combined total of two groups from one school, and the Best Overall Choir Award (for Classic Sounds Honors). After hearing Classic Sounds Honors, one of the judges remarked, “I have not heard that from high schoolers ever in my life.”

Roxbury students also won four out of the six possible individual student achievement awards. Choir members gaining these honors were sophomore Isabella Hermey, junior Jacob Wood, senior Kristin Andlauer and senior Alexa Scano.
