RANDOLPH, N.J. - The Roxbury field hockey team advanced Thursday in the Morris County Tournament by defeating Randolph 1-0 in a down-to-the-wire contest of rivals.
It was Kayla Bedel-Franklin who scored the winning goal, but Gaels goaltender Kaitlyn O'Shea helped Roxbury's cause by making five saves. Her counterpart for Randolph, Mackenzie Vorel made eight.
The hard-fought game saw contributions by every player on the field in a battle to the buzzer. The win brings the team's record to 9-2-1 and means the Gaels advance to the fourth round of the tournament. But before that, Roxbury must take on Mountain Lakes in a 9 a.m. game at home on Saturday.
