ROXBURY, NJ - The Roxbury High School football team came out on top Thursday in a post-regular-season game against Plainfield.
The NJSIAA crossover game - a type of consolation game made available to teams that don't make it into the state tournament - saw the Gaels defeat the Cardinals 17-13.
Roxbury, playing at home, took an early lead when Evan Vazquez scored. Plainfield later responded through the air, but the Gaels were able to maintain their advantage when Brian Dachowski blocked Plainfield's extra point, leaving the score 14-13.
Roxbury added a field goal from Riley O'Connor to make it 17-13 for the win. During Plainfield's subsequent aerial attack, Roxbury's defense bent but didn't break and preserved the victory, one that left the team's record at 3-6.
