MENDHAM, NJ – The Roxbury High School football team evened out its season record Friday, bringing it 2-2 with a blowout win over Mendham.
The Gaels plowed over the Minutemen in a late afternoon Yom Kippur game, walking off the field with a 28-0 victory.
Junior Evan Vazquez, senior Connor Mahoney and junior Riley O’Connor scored touchdowns, with Vazquez crossing the goal line twice. Vazquez also hurried the quarterback twice, had seven tackles and 14 rushes for 114 yards. His first touchdown came with 4:48 left in the first quarter and his second came with 8:09 remaining in the fourth.
Senior Michael Roumes had 17 rushes for 81 yards, made five tackles and an interception with a 20-yard gain for the Gaels.
Mahoney made seven tackles, defended a pass, hurried the quarterback five times and rushed for 53 total yards. His touchdown came with 1:56 left in the first quarter.
Donte Gibson, a senior, made four tackles, hurried the Mendham quarterback and registered a sack. O’Connor made four tackles, defended three passes, had eight rushes for 61 yards and scored his touchdown with 2:29 left in the last quarter.
The Gaels next take on Morris Knolls at home on Oct. 6 at 7 p.m.
