ROXBURY, N.J. - The Roxbury High School girls soccer team, already the champion of Morris County, powerfully pushed toward a state championship on Tuesday, soundly defeating Paramus in an state tournament first round contest .
The Gaels overpowered the Paramus Spartans 5-0 in the NJSIAA North 1, Group 3 State Tournament first round game on their home field. The win set up No. 4 seeded Roxbury for a quarterfinal battle against No. 5 seeded Nutley on Nov. 4.
Roxbury shared its goal scoring across its ranks during the season-extending game. Scoring one goal each were Danielle Dachowski, Jackie Katzenberger, Shannon Leydon, Madison Martino and Ashleigh Sarafin. Dachowski also had two assists, as did Martino. Irwin made one assist.
The victory brought the Gaels' record to 14-3-1.
