ROXBURY, NJ - Roxbotix, the Roxbury High School robotics team, is hoping the community will support its goal of traveling to Detroit, Michigan later this month to compete in the FIRST World Championship event.

The team is trying to raise $10,000 and has set up a GoFundMe page at: The Detroit event runs from April 25 to April 28.

"Time is short, so we are looking to every outlet for raising funds to help make this trip happen for the students," said a statement from team parents. "It has been a great competition season for the Roxbotix students and their robot. The team spent six weeks building a 120-pound robot to compete at FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology)  2018 POWER-UP events in the Tri-State area."

According to the parents, Roxbotix advanced to the quarterfinals at both of its Mid-Atlantic District competitions in Mt. Olive and Montgomery. The team traveled to the Rochester Institute of Technology and competed at the Finger Lakes Regional Competition, making it to the Semi-Finals and it recently attended the Mid-Atlantic District Championships at Lehigh University placing 16 out of the top 60 teams in the Mid-Atlantic district.

"Under strict rules, limited resources and an intense 6-week time limit, teams of students are challenged to raise funds, design a team "brand," hone teamwork skills and build and program industrial-size robots to play a difficult field game against like-minded competitors," said the parents. "It’s as close to real-world engineering as a student can get. Volunteer professional mentors lend their time and talents to guide each team. Each season ends with an exciting FIRST Championship."

The team thanked all the sponsors that helped support this year's Roxbotix season:
