MORRISTOWN, NJ - The Roxbury High School ice hockey team trounced the skaters from Mendham on Thursday in action at Mennen Sports Arena.
The Gaels shut-out the Minutemen 5-0, scoring in all three periods. The win sustained Roxbury's undefeated record; the team is now 4-0. So far, the team has beaten West Morris, Montville, Kinnelon and Mendham. It outscored its opponents 24-5 in those games.
Thursday's game saw two goals apiece by Roxbury players Billy Hefferle and Dylan DeGraw. Hefferle now has seven goals and nine assists while DeGraw has four goals and four assists. The fifth goal on Thursday was shot by Shane Miller. Nick Zaragoza, who now has four goals and six assists, assisted in three of the goals scored.
It was a tough night for Mendham goaltender Tanner Brown as he faced an offensive onslaught from the Gaels, managing to make 30 saves. Life was substantially quieter for Roxbury goalie A.J. Pisani who recorded six saves. Pisani has given up only one goal this year.
The Thursday game was a big one for freshman defenseman Ethan Barooah. He recorded his first point with an assist on Hefferle's second goal.
The Gaels next take on Sparta on Saturday. The 4 p.m. game will be at Skylands Ice World in Stockholm.
