MORRIS TWP., NJ - Bouncing back from a loss on Jan. 19, the Roxbury High School ice hockey team on Thursday easily defeated Mendham in a game at Mennen Sports Arena.
The Gaels, who won the contest 8-1, came out with guns blazing, scoring four goals in the first period and preventing Mendham's offense from making any. The Mendham Minutemen managed only one goal, which came in the second period. But by the end of that period, Roxbury was up 6-1.
The Gaels added another two points in the final frame.
During the lopsided event, Roxbury's Billy DeGraw found the net twice, both times in the opening period. The team's other six goals were spread among the Gaels with Nick Zaragoza, Brendan Sanderson, Johnny Facchini, Billy Hefferle, Shane Miller and Nicholas Hefferle all scoring.
Manning the net for Roxbury, goaltender Connor Mutz made 17 saves.
Roxbury's record is now 14-4. The team next plays Feb. 1, taking on Madison at Mennen at 2:30 p.m.
