ROXBURY, NJ – The Roxbury Home Depot store today donated stepping stones to replace those stolen from a Boy Scout’s landscaping project at Roxbury Public Library.
The theft of the ten pieces of slate was discovered July 19.
The Home Depot store in Succasunna's Roxbury Mall gave Boy Scout Gabriel Dasappan enough pieces of colored slate to restore the project, said Dasappan’s mother Gheri. “They donated 10 stones to replace the ones taken,” she said. “Gabe will set them up this week.”
The donation was the idea of assistant store manager Pete Sargent. After reading a July 20 TAPinto Roxbury article about the matter, Sargent contacted the publication and asked for the Dasappans’ phone number. He met with the Dasappans at the store on Sunday and found stones to match those removed.
Before heading to the Home Depot, Gheri Dasappan said she was worried he store wouldn’t be able to match the colored slates her son installed last year. The original stones, left over from a Dassappan backyard project, were purchased by another stone purveyor, she said.
Sargent said he felt compelled to help, commenting, “It’s the least we can do.”
