MORRIS TWP., NJ – The Roxbury High School ice hockey team shut-out Sparta on Tuesday, a win that brought the Gaels’ record to 13-3.
The 10-0 victory over the Spartans at the Mennen Sports Arena kept alive the Gaels’ undefeated record in the Halvorsen Division.
It was a hat trick-plus-one game for Roxbury’s Billy Hefferle, who also notched an assist. Nick Zaragoza was also in hat trick territory, scoring three goals and making one assist.
Goals were also scored by Dylan DeGraw, Shane Miller and Nicholas Hefferle. Additional assists during the offensive frenzy were made by Miller, Johnny Facchini, DeGraw and Ethan Barooah, who made two.
Gael goalie A.J. Pisani made 25 saves.
“I was very happy with our performance tonight against Sparta/Jefferson,” said Roxbury coach Jonathan Benbow. “We talked before the game about the importance of playing three periods and the importance of shooting the puck when we had the chance.”
The coach said his top line, consisting of Zaragoza, Hefferle and DeGraw, “was once again spectacular, netting eight goals.”
Benbow also praised the defense. “Shane Miller and Johnny Facchini continued to lead the D while Pisani was fantastic in net, earning his third shutout of the season.”
The Gaels next play Jan. 19 against Chatham at Mennen at 4:15 p.m.
