ROXBURY, NJ - There will be no holiday tree lighting event this year, said Roxbury Township Manager John Shepherd.

The lighting of the tree, menorah and nativity scene situated at Horseshoe Lake Park in Succasunna, was supposed to take place Dec. 1. But the ice and snow storm that hammered Roxbury that day, forced township officials to cancel the event, said Shepherd.

"The ice on Sunday really hurt us," he said. "It was just cold and/or snowing some. We were ready to go, but the ice caused a danger for traveling."

Some publications said the event was re-scheduled for tonight (Dec. 6) but the manager said it was eventually decided the ceremony will not take place this year.

"We are not able to reschedule some of the vendors who were assisting with the event," he explained. "And once we get past this weekend, we think it is too late to have the lighting event."
