ROXBURY, N.J. - The Roxbury High School ice hockey team dominated its counterparts from Montville on Monday, defeating the Mustangs 10-4.

The Gaels took an early lead at the Mennen Sports Arena, finding the net four times in the first period and preventing Montville from getting on the scoreboard. A goal a piece went to Ryan Johnson, Johnny Facchini, Billy Hefferle and Dillon Miller in the period.

Montville got itself into the game in the middle period as James Reynolds scored two goals. But Roxbury wasn't resting on its laurels; The team notched three more goals, allowing it to enter the final period with a commanding 7-2 lead.

It made three more, to Montville's two, in the final period. By game's end, Roxbury's Hefferle along with Dylan DeGraw and Nick Zaragoza had added two goals each to their personal stats. Facchini, Miller, Johnson and Justin Matthews all scored one.

Gaels goaltender Connor Mutz made 19 saves but Roxbury's relentless offense forced Montville goalie, Matt Irizarry to work even harder than Mutz: Although he let 10 pucks get through, Irizarry made 25 saves during the game.

The contest puts Roxbury's record at 2-0. It will be back at Mennen on Thursday to take on Kinnelon at 4:45 p.m.
