ROXBURY, NJ - Roxbury High School junior David Petrov was recently nominated by his high school choir directors for the Mayo Performing Arts Center Music Student of the Month (MSOM). He was an honoree for outstanding pianist along with four other students from area schools.
MSOM, a student recognition program in its 18th year, honors Morris County middle and high school students nominated by their music teachers, not only for their excellence as musicians but also for dedication, leadership and commitment to their school community.
“In addition to being a great solo pianist, David has been expanding his playing into the field of collaborative piano (accompanying) as a student pianist for the Roxbury High School choirs,” Associate Choir Director Krista Sweer said in her nomination letter. “As a pianist myself, it has been a joy to challenge him with more and more difficult pieces to play for our choirs and have him rise to the occasion each time. He has an incredible work ethic and plays with a mature and nuanced touch along with a high level of musicality.”
Selected students will be honored before a chosen performance where they receive recognition on stage and complimentary tickets to that evening’s MPAC show. This month’s recipients will be honored at the 5 Browns concert on Jan. 30.
